Aspiazu's first-half goal
beats Wallkill Valley, 1-0
-
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Victoria Aspiazu's first-half goal - a direct kick from 25 yards out - was the only score of the game when the Rockaway Township Riptide U11 girls travel team defeated the Wallkill Valley Warriors, 1-0, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Norway Field in the township on Sunday, April 10.
Aspiazu's blast cleared the wall of Wallkill defenders and rifled into the top right-hand corner of the net to give the Riptide a 2-0 record for the young season.
Riptide keeper Alli Esposito had a quiet day in goal with only two saves as Riptide midfielders Camryn Perry, Devon Cavallone and Shayda Daneshavari kept the Warrior attack to a minimum.
Sweeper Jamie Ingling was there to break up scoring chances for the few times that Wallkill did reach the Riptide side of the field.
The Riptide had other chances to score, but the Wallkill keeper was up to the challenge. Emely Banguero, Emma Snead, Alyssa Smith and Monica Morris each had quality scoring attempts turned away.
Another scoring chance came in the second half when Danica Lee sent a ball to Olivia Munson just outside the 6-yard line only to have Munson's hard shot sail just wide of the far post.
The Riptide's next game is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, against the Ringwood Rovers at Stonetown Field in Ringwood.

Aspiazu hat trick leads Riptide to opening win
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Victoria Aspiazu had a three-goal hat trick and an assist and goalie Alli Esposito led a defense that allowed but one goal when the Rockaway Township Riptide U11 girls travel soccer team defeated the Bridgewater United Pink Panthers, 4-1, in an opening-day Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Alfred Brown Field in Bridgewater on Sunday, April 3, 2011.
Aspiazu scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick after Emely Banguero-Hurtado had been taken down in the box.
After Bridgewater scored its only goal of the game to tie the score at 1-1, Aspiazu scored on a corner kick that she curled into the goal to give the Riptide a 2-1 lead.
The final goal of the first half came when Jessica Heitmann scored off a pass from Danica Lee, who had taken a throwin from Aspiazu.
The only score of the second half came on another penalty kick from Aspiazu.
Esposito finished the game with eight saves and got plenty of help from defenders Olivia Munson, Devon Cavallone, Shayda Daneshvari, Jamie Ingling and Camryn Perry. Emma Snead had a solid game on both sides of the field and the Riptide coaching staff was also pleased with the play of newcomers Alyssa Smith and Monica Morris.
The next game for the Riptide is against the Wallkill Valley Warriors on Sunday, April 10, at Norway Field.
